Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (1)

Last Updated on March 21, 2022

A common misconception is that Park MGM and MGM Grand are the same. However, even though they are both under the same iconic hotel brand, they are actually two separate resorts. The MGM Grand has been a staple on the Las Vegas Strip since the 1970s, whereas Park MGM opened in 2018 after a $600 million renovation to the former Monte Carlo.

Though MGM Resorts really has a knack for creating sophisticated properties overall, there are some key differences between these two Las Vegas properties. Let’s break it down so that you can decide where you really want to stay on your trip to fabulous Las Vegas.

Rooms

No matter the hotel, the room is one of the most important parts. After all, you stay at the hotel to have a bed to sleep in at the end of the night.

MGM Grand

There are several room options at this location. There is the perfect spot for everyone here, from standard rooms with view choices to entire lofts with apartment amenities. There are four main types of room choices: Standard, Stay Well, Suites, SKYLOFTS, and they are all pet-friendly.

Standard

For standard rooms, the MGM Grand has three different styles.

The West Wing King is 350 square feet with one king bed and a premium location near the Hakkasan Nightclub and Las Vegas Boulevard.

The Grand King is a 446 square foot room with one king bed and a couch. The Grand King has the option of a view of the Strip.

The Grand Two Queen is 446 square feet with two queen beds and also has the option of a view of the Strip.

Stay Well

The Stay Well rooms have additional amenities designed by the Cleveland Clinic, Delos, and Dr. Deepak Chopra to help you stay well during your trip. Stay Well rooms include air purifiers, aromatherapy, circadian lighting, a non-toxic and UV cleaning protocol, specialized lighting, a shower infuser to reduce chlorine, and natural memory foam mattresses.

Stay Well is available with two queens, one king, and suite formats. They also have a 1300 square foot patio suite in the Stay Well collection, which is two stories and has a patio with expansive views over the Strip, as well as a 1500 square foot, two-bedroom marquee suite.

Suites

Suites include varying sized suites from the 675 square foot Executive and Tower Suites to the 1300 square foot Skyline Terrace Suite that is two stories and includes a private terrace.

SKYLOFTS

What sets the SKYLOFTS apart from the suites is the 24/7 butler and concierge, pillow menu, infinity tub, immersion shower, and service twice daily. The smallest loft is the one-bedroom loft at 1400 square feet, while the biggest loft is the three-bedroom at 6,000 square feet.

Park MGM Las Vegas Rooms

Here, you’ll find four main categories of rooms: standard, Suites, Stay Well, and NoMad Las Vegas. It is worth noting that they are also pet-friendly.

Standard

The standard rooms offer a modern classic design with options of either a single king or two queen beds and a choice of a view of the Strip.

Suites

The suites at Park MGM Las Vegas combine European style with intimate sensibility. They offer suites in two sizes, 700 square feet, and 900 square feet, with various bed and view options. One of their most interesting suites is the Peacock Hospitality Suite which is suited for gatherings and includes a murphy bed that folds up into the wall for more space to entertain.

Stay Well

The Stay Well collection is the same as MGM Grand, including features such as air purifiers, aromatherapy, circadian lighting, a non-toxic and UV cleaning protocol, specialized lighting, a shower infuser to reduce chlorine, and natural memory foam mattresses. They offer single king and two queen options as well as suite room upgrades.

NoMad Las Vegas

The NoMad Las Vegas collection is modeled after a refined European home, including finer details of nightly turndown service, a well-stocked minibar, and some rooms have free-standing pedestal tubs.

Amenities

When you stay at a high-end resort, you expect there to be a lot of amenities. Both have an extensive amenities list.

MGM Park has more of a focus on convenience with their amenity offerings, including Shoppe, a general store for anything you might need, Corner Store, a place for the perfect accessories to complete your look, a simple check-in process, and service to set you up with assorted transportation options.

Restaurants

When it comes to food, these two resorts do not skimp on options. However, of course, MGM Grand is the bigger resort, so it has just a few more restaurants.

MGM Grand

Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (6)

MGM Grand is best known for its celebrity chef restaurants. Tom Colicchio’s Craftsteak, Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, Emeril’s New Orleans Fish House, and Morimoto Las Vegas are all celebrity chef restaurants that you can dine at during your stay.

There are also restaurants with inspirations from countries around the world, including Grand Wok Noodle Bar, Ambra Italian Kitchen + Bar, Hecho En Vegas Mexico Grill & Cantina, International Smoke, and Greek Sneek (temporarily closed).

If you are looking for popular chains you love, there is a food court reminiscent of a high-end mall with quick service franchises as well as a Pieology and a Subway on property.

Just want a coffee or dessert after dinner? Swing by the on-site Starbucks or Blizz Frozen Yogurt & Desserts.

But wait, there’s more! MGM Grand also has more restaurant options, including:

  • TAP Sports Bar
  • Crush
  • Avenue Cafe
  • Bonanno’s New York Pizzeria
  • Cabana Grill
  • Joel Rouchon
  • MGM Grand Buffet (Temporarily Closed)
  • Hakkasan Restaurant (Temporarily Closed)
  • West End Market
  • L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon

MGM Park

This resort may not have celebrity chef restaurants, but it does have some really enticing and fun options.

At La La Noodle, you can watch chefs pull noodles by hand. Beerhaus provides bar eats and a craft beer selection with games and a patio. Best Friend, a restaurant from food truck pioneer Roy Choi, is actually hidden behind what looks like a convenience store with giant slushies and Korean snacks. Surprises are around every corner when dining at this resort.

If you are looking for an upscale, traditional steakhouse stripped down to its primal roots for an unforgettable dinner, then Bavette’s Steakhouse & Bar is the place to be. They feature all of the steakhouse classics, but they take it up a notch like with their 42-day dry-aged USDA prime beef.

If those aren’t enough excitement, other dining options include:

  • The Crack Shack
  • Eataly
  • La Pizza e La Pasta
  • Primrose
  • The NoMad Bar
  • Side Betty Grill
  • Hello Kitty Cafe
  • Starbucks
  • Bruxie (Temporarily Closed)
  • Sake Rok (Temporarily Closed)
  • The NoMad Restaurant (Temporarily Closed)
  • Manzo (Temporarily Closed)

Entertainment

When you come to Vegas, you expect to be entertained. If you are looking to not stray far from your home base, both the resorts have entertainment options for you to explore.

MGM Grand

Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (8)

Some extravagant shows call the MGM Grand home, including David Copperfield, Jabbawockeez, and KA by Cirque du Soleil (temporarily closed).

They have also brought in two exhibition experiences: The Hunger Games and Virtual Reality, which, yes, takes the audience to a whole new world! Brad Garrett’s Comedy Club also calls the MGM Grand home, bringing in the best names in stand-up that will quite literally have you laughing until you pee your pants.

There is also the Grand Garden, an event space on-site that has a rotating line-up. Some of the upcoming names coming to MGM Grand Garden are Dave Chapelle and Joe Rogan, Phish, and Grupo Firme.

Park MGM

Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (9)

This is the smaller of the two resorts, so there aren’t as many entertainment options, but it does have the Park Theater.

The Park Theater hosts rotating entertainment with upcoming lineups, including names like Bruno Mars and Joe Bonamassa. Park MGM is also home to six different Cirque du Soleil shows and the Haus of Gaga featuring Lady Gaga (temporarily closed).

Casino

MGM Grand

Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (10)

The MGM Grand Casino is one of the most well-known casinos on the Las Vegas strip. Their Poker Room is one of the best on the Strip for Texas Hold ‘Em.

Table Games

Of course, they also offer all of the traditional table games, plus some unique ones like Pai Gow Tiles, Single Zero Roulette, and six different poker games.

Slots

Slots are a must for any casino, and here, they range from one cent to $1,000 per pull. Some slot games they offer are a wager-remix on Frogger, the arcade classic, and a social gaming experience with Cannonbeard’s treasure in which you compete against up to four other players to win the chest of gold.

BetMGM Sportsbook

In addition to the ordinary finds at a casino, the BetMGM Sportsbook offers more than 53 channels of simultaneous sports action that you can make wagers on.

Park MGM

Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (11)

Park MGM sets itself apart for its attention to dedicated areas for high-limit options.

High-Limit

This exclusive casino offers intimate, dedicated areas for both high-limit slot machines and high-limit tables. The High Limits Slots room has a selection of 50 games to choose from, TVs, and comfortable seating. The High-Limit casino offers Roulette, Blackjack, and No Commission Baccarat under a historic Tiffany Glass ceiling and with expertly crafted cocktails.

Tables

There are also classic table card games like blackjack, craps, Texas Hold ‘Em, baccarat, and roulette, but they also have a few others that are fun, like Crazy 4 poker, 3-card poker, Face Up Pai Gow Poker, and Mississippi Stud.

Slots

There are about 900 slots on the casino floor, including traditional slots and video table games. Three of their featured slots are Buffalo Stampede, Willy Wonka- World of Wonka, and Game King 8.3. You’re sure to find one you like.

BetMGM Sportsbook & Bar

The BetMGM Sportsbook & Bar offers food, drinks, sports, and wagering all in one. Take game day to the next level with comfy seats and all the big screens you could want.

Nightlife

We know you didn’t come to Vegas to not experience the nightlife. The best part about on-site nightlife at these resorts is that you don’t have to find your way back to your room. Well, you might still get lost if you have one too many, but it is better than being across town.

MGM Grand

Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (12)

The MGM Grand has a nightlife option for any style. The Hakkasan Nightclub offers a traditional Vegas nightclub experience. Or there’s Losers Bar, a live country music venue, Ambra Lounge, an intimate space for handcrafted cocktails and live jazz, or the Wet Republic Ultra Pool, a nightclub experience combined with the luxury of being poolside.

For those wanting a bar experience, there is also the Whiskey Down, which has 50 different types of whiskey, Centrifuge, a modern metro circular bar, and the Lobby Bar, which is an ode to the classic bars found in upscale hotels.

Park MGM

Park MGM Vs. MGM Grand In 2022 (13)

Though this one doesn’t have too many nightlife options, the two that they do have are something special.

The Juniper Cocktail Lounge has the most extensive gin collection in Las Vegas and makes every cocktail element by hand, including every juice and syrup.

Mama Rabbit is a vibrant atmosphere that includes multiple rooms, a double-sided bar, live entertainment, roaming margarita carts, and the largest Agave-based spirits selection in Las Vegas. Talk about a mean margarita!

Price

In the end, no matter the amenities, entertainment, restaurant selections, or guest rooms, the resort you pick has to match your budget. Interestingly, even though the resorts are very different in size, their pricing is rather similar.

There is a $15 self-parking fee at both resorts, with valet available for an additional cost, a resort fee of $39 a day, and rooms at either resort start under $50. However, when it comes to room rates, they are often highly dependent on the time of year, vacancy, your selection, and various specials that are running.

The good news is that both resorts can meet a wide variety of budgets!

Where Should You Stay?

Ultimately, both offer a different kind of experience at each resort. When choosing between them, it is important to consider your own preferences for the following areas.

Room Style and Options

The Park MGM hotel includes more in-room features, they are slightly bigger and have a more intimate, upscale vibe even in the standard accommodations. At MGM Grand, the rooms are more basic, but there are a lot more options, especially for VIPs. Both resorts are pet-friendly, offer views of the Strip, and include the Stay Well collection. Before choosing, decide which room best fits your lifestyle.

Features

To decide between the two, it is essential to consider what features are the most important to you. Really delve into the entertainment, restaurants, casino, nightlife, and amenities sections to see which property offers the most things of importance to your stay. Remember that MGM Park is smaller and doesn’t have the variety that MGM Grand does, but if you are looking for a quieter, laid-back experience, it is the perfect match.

Smoking allowed vs. Non-smoking

MGM Park hotel is the first non-smoking resort property on the Las Vegas Strip. There is no smoking allowed anywhere on-site, including in the casino. MGM Grand has some smoke-free areas but is not completely smoke-free. Consider which best meets your needs.

VIP

Both resorts offer VIP opportunities. At Park MGM, they have focused their casino to give dedicated space for high-limit players and do offer higher-end suites. However, at MGM Grand, there are far more VIP room options, including SKYLOFTS, which come with extra special services fit for the elite like a personal butler.
