Thanks to its fertile volcanic soil, Madeira is often called'The Floating Garden in the Atlantic'. This lovely Portugueseisland is a plant-lover's paradise, with many vibrantly colouredflowers blooming throughout the year. But there's no better time tovisit than in late spring, when the island's famous Flower Festivaltakes place.
During this enchanting festival the pretty streets of theisland's capital Funchal are filled with colours and scents fromfloral floats. Parades and performances take place daily as localscelebrate the beauty of the island in bloom.
Our eight-day trip is timed to coincide with this delightfulfestival in 2023, so you can make the most of the unmissable floralspectacle. You'll have a grandstand seat for The Allegoric FlowerParade, one of the festival's highlights, and see floats passingalong the streets of downtown Funchal as live music plays andfragrant scents fill the air.
You'll also be visiting several of Madeira's renowned gardensincluding the Botanical Gardens, Monte Palace Tropical Garden andPalheiro Gardens.
Your base for seven nights will be the four-star Four ViewMonumental Hotel, where you can chill out in the spa or one of thethree freshwater swimming pools in your spare time, or simply sipsundowner cocktails in the poolside bar.

After breakfast you'll depart the hotel for a full day IslandTour - a wonderful opportunity to see the surprising contrastbetween East and West Madeira in one day. Your tour will includeRibeiro Frio, a natural park with endemic flowers, the village ofSantana famous for its traditional thatched Madeiran houses, themagnificent north coast for breathtaking views and Porto Moniz nearthe natural volcanic rock swimming pools. Then you'll pay a visitto the only volcanic plateau on the island, Paul da Serra, beforedriving back to Funchal passing through lovely fishing villages,banana plantations and vineyards.

Your walking tour includes a visit to a wine lodge and localmarket where you will be able to appreciate exotic flowers,tropical fruits and local craftwork. You'll then take the cable carup to Monte village where you'll visit the impressive Monte PalaceGardens. These glorious gardens surround the chateau-like palacewhere you will be able to see a massive range of flowers from everycorner of the globe. This morning you will visit Palheiro Gardens. This garden,located 500 meters above sea level, has been established overseveral generations and is most famous for camellias, althoughthere is something for everyone with green fingers, including awonderful spread of plants, some of which are more than 200 yearsold. Your tour will also include a visit to the Statue of Christthe King with fantastic views over the Atlantic Ocean.

Today is your chance to see The Allegoric Flower Parade, one ofthe highlights of the Madeira Flower Festival.
